BOLIVAR, Mo.- Lewis men's soccer fell to the Southwest Baptist Bearcats, 1-0, Saturday morning at the SBU Soccer Field. With the loss, Lewis moves to 2-4-1 (1-3-1 GLVC), while SBU moves to 4-2-1 (1-2-1 GLVC).
IMPACT PLAYERS
Connor Pate (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) led the Flyers with three shots. In goal,
Matija Blazic (Obrenovac Beograd, Serbia/Gimnazija u Obrenovcu) made two saves.
For the Bearcats, Luis Sanchez-Barbudo Cruz scored the only goal of the morning. Goalkeeper, Jan-Henry Schafer, had four saves in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats struck quickly, scoring just nine minutes into the game. Sanchez-Barbudo Cruz made a high right shot unassisted to make it 1-0. For the rest of the first half, both teams traded possession, trying to score again. Lewis took three shots to tie the game but couldn't find the back of the net. At the end of the first half, the Bearcats led 1-0.
For the rest of the game, Lewis hunted for a goal and took nine more shots in the second half. Schafer saved all attempts on goal, leaving the Flyers scoreless, and SBU secured the 1-0 win.
GAME NOTES
- Pate had his first start of the season.
- Lewis and SBU both had 12 shots each.
- SBU had a total of 14 fouls while Lewis had eight.
- Lewis' record against the Bearcats now sits at 5-1-2.
