Liberty, Mo. – Lewis women's soccer opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 2-0 victory over William Jewell Saturday evening at Greene Stadium. With the result, Lewis moves to 2-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the GLVC, while William Jewell falls to 0-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Abbie Delong (O'Fallon, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) and
Talia Kaempf (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) each scored a goal for the Flyers, while
Andrea Wie (Vadsoe, Norway/NTG Tromsoe) recorded one save in the shutout. William Jewell goalkeeper Jenna Skeeters made nine saves in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis controlled the opening half, recording nine shots, while holding the Cardinals without a shot on goal. The Flyers created several scoring opportunities but entered halftime tied 0-0.
Lewis earned a penalty kick in the 59th minute, but Skeeters made the save on Adrianna Gudaitis to keep the match scoreless.
The Flyers broke through in the 68th minute when Delong scored to give Lewis a 1-0 lead.
Lewis continued to pressure the Cardinals in the 86th minute when Kaempf found the back of the net to extend the Flyers' advantage to 2-0.
The Flyers held William Jewell to just one shot on the afternoon and secured the 2-0 victory to open GLVC play with a win.

- The Flyers held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
- Lewis and William Jewell each received two yellow cards.
- Saturday marked the 18th meeting between Lewis and William Jewell.
