Biography

Shiely was responsible for starting the women's volleyball, basketball and track and field programs at Lewis University in 1973, she then coached at Lewis until the conclusion of the 1974-1975 seasons. Shiely then transitioned to Marquette University where she was named the head women's basketball and volleyball coach and was also credited with starting both programs at the university located in the heart of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 
 
Shiely coached women's basketball at Marquette from 1975-1985, while also coaching women's volleyball from 1975-1999. She was the only woman in the nation to be the head coach of the women's basketball and women's volleyball teams simultaneously. 

She became the school's first Coordinator of Women's Athletics in 1975.  She also served as the school's first Senior Women's Athletic Administrator from 1985 to 1994 and the first NCAA Compliance Director from 1988-1994. 

During her 24-year tenure as a head coach, she won 380 matches, the top mark in Marquette University Athletics history. Shiely also won 111 games in 11 seasons as women's basketball head coach.

Shiely received the WWIAC (Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Special Recognition Award for her commitment to the development of women's athletics in Wisconsin and her service to the conference. She was inducted into the Marquette "M Club" Hall of Fame in 2004.
