    Assistant Coach (3rd season)
E-mail Coach Carlsen Chris Carlsen is in his third season as an assistant coach with the Lewis baseball team. His main duties include working with the Lewis pitching staff and recruiting. Carlsen has had a pitcher named All-GLVC in both seasons at Lewis. In 2009 Joe Scumaci was named to the All-GLVC Second Team thanks to a 2.42 earned run average, the best by a Lewis starter in nearly a decade. In 2008 Jon Guzzo became Lewis' first All-GLVC pitcher since 2000. Prior to Lewis, Carlsen worked for three seasons as Winona State's pitching coach. At Winona State, Carlsen guided a staff which lowered its team ERA each season. Four players were named to the all-conference team and three to the all-region squad during his tenure. Carlsen also coached All-American and 2007 NCAA Division II Player of the Year, catcher/pitcher Ben Barrone. Before joining the staff at Winona State, Carlsen served as the pitching coach at Wayne State (Neb.) and was the pitching instructor and manager of the Strike Zone in Omaha, Neb. He also has two seasons of experience as the pitching coach for the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. Carlsen played collegiate ball at Northwest Missouri State, and he competed for four seasons in the Jayhawk League. Carlsen and his wife, Lisa, Lewis' head women's basketball coach, have four children.
