11604Kerrie James begins her third season as an assistant coach with the Lewis women’s basketball program with the 2014-15 campaign. 

In 2012-13, James helped guide the Flyers to an overall record of 24-6 record, which was the best turn around in Division II, after the Flyers went 8-20 in 2011-12. The Flyers were ranked as high as No. 20 in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, as well as earned the GLVC automatic bid in to the NCAA Tournament after capturing the 2012-13 conference title.

The Flyers put together a 23-6 mark in 2013-14 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. Lewis defeated UMSL in the opening round for just the second NCAA Tournament win in program history.
 
James comes to the Flyers staff after four years with the Kent State Golden Flashes women’s basketball staff, serving two years as an assistant coach (2010-12) and two as the director of basketball operations (2008-10). James helped Kent State to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
 
With the Flashes, James mainly worked with the guards as well as helping with recruiting, team travel and summer camps. She coached 1000+ point scorer, Jamilah Humes, who remains in the Kent State Top 10 in steals and assists.
 
As a guard on the Flashes squad from 2003-07, James appeared in 104 career games, helping the squad to a 76-41 record in four seasons. She made 61 career starts, compiling 458 career points, 162 rebounds, 184 assists and 99 steals.
 
James is a December 2007 graduate of Kent State, earning a bachelor of fine and professional arts, with a major in sports management and a minor in marketing.  She held an internship with the Harlem Ambassadors in Denver, Colo., traveling with the basketball show performance, which promotes staying in school and staying off drugs.
 
The Mississauga, Ontario, native now resides in Lisle, Ill.
