Brad Swenby enters his third season as the Flyers’ goalkeeper coach, and his tutelage is already paying off dividends for the Lewis men's soccer team.
Last season, the Flyers advanced to the NCAA Division II 'Sweet 16' behind the efforts of All-America goalkeeper Alec Pickett. Pickett, who was also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, notched 10 solo shutouts and was a part of 13 whitewashes, which helped Lewis to the country's best shutout percentage of 0.62. As a team, Lewis was fourth in the country with a .878 save percentage
Prior to his arrival in Romeoville, Swenby spent the 2009 and 2010 campaigns at Wisconsin,
where his keepers earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolades five times in two seasons.
Prior to his arrival in Madison, Swenby spent the 2009 campaign as the assistant soccer coach at his alma mater, UW-Milwaukee. Four years earlier, Swenby was the goalkeeper coach for the Milwaukee women’s squad. Swenby also competed for the Panthers from 2000-02.
Swenby brings an extensive coaching background at several different camps and clubs, while establishing the Swenby Goalkeeper Academy in Madison in 2006.
He has also competed professionally, playing for the Minnesota Thunder (2003), Milwaukee Wave (2006) and most recently the Arizona Sahuaros (2007-10).
Swenby owns a D National Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation.
