Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Sophomore Jenna Volpi scored a game-tying goal early in the second half and assisted on the game-winner two minutes later, as the Lewis University women's soccer team overcame a 1-0 deficit to post a 3-1 victory against visiting Upper Iowa.

Volpi, the team's leading scorer in 2003, tied the game at 1-all at 60:13 when she came free on a breakaway and dribbled in for 30 yards before slipping a shot past the Upper Iowa goalkeeper.

Volpi then assisted on the eventual game-winner less than two minutes later. Junior Loren Pellizzarri scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season at 62:04; Volpi fed Pellizzarri at the top of the goal box and Pellizzarri lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper's head for the go-ahead goal.

The Flyers added an insurance goal with less than ten minutes remaining as freshman Sarah Lyons scored her second goal of the season at 81:22. Senior Devin Owens earned the assist.

Upper Iowa (8-11-0) was peppered throughout the first half by 17 Lewis shots, but managed to withstand the flurry. The Peacocks broke a scoreless tie at 41:21 when Elicia Munns scored off of a rebound of a Christina Monthisane shot.

Overall, Lewis outshot the Peacocks 29-8 and held a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Upper Iowa goalkeeper Sarah Hiatt had six saves; Lewis' Courtney Hutt had four saves.

A senior, Hutt finished her Lewis career with 387 saves--good for third on the school's all-time list. She ended her career one save shy of second place all-time.

The Flyers (5-11-1) close 2004 on a high note by bettering their win total from the previous season for the second consecutive year.
