Final Stats

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--After laying low for three games, sophomore Sarah McKinney erupted in game five and helped launch the Lewis University women's volleyball team to a five-set victory over visiting Quincy.

The Flyers (16-9, 8-6 Great Lakes Valley Conference) registered a 29-31, 30-22, 30-25, 26-30, 15-8 win over the Hawks (10-18, 5-8 GLVC). The victory helps cement the Flyers' hold on fifth place in the GLVC with just two conference matches remaining. With only six teams qualifying for the GLVC Tournament, Lewis helped its postseason cause.

Quincy's Amber Heimann produced a monster night, fittingly on Halloween weekend, as she tallied 32 kills, 23 digs and four blocks and had a .347 hitting percentage. However, he effort wasn't enough to topple Lewis.

Instead, Lewis' Theresa Nugent provided an equally stellar night. She posted 20 kills, 14 digs, five blocks and a .341 hitting percentage.

It was McKinney that would pace the team in game 5, though. McKinney sat out game 4, but returned in game 5 to record five kills in six attempts. McKinney finished the match with eight kills, five digs, two blocks and a team-best .615 hitting percentage.

In addition, Rory Harrison had three blocks in the deciding game. The blocks added to her match-high six blocks and complemented her 11 kills.

Senior Megan Poludniak also turned in a solid performance, establishing a career high with 12 kills. She hit .286 and had a career-high 13 digs as well.

Sophomore Charisse Steckling came off the bench and provided a spark with nine kills and a .438 hitting percentage.

The Flyers will next host Missouri-St. Louis at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.
