Volleyball Clinches Spot in GLVC Tournament

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Senior middle hitter Rory Harrison carried the Lewis University women's volleyball team to a sweep of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon.

Harrison had a career-high 18 kills on just 23 attempts to record a .696 hitting percentage and lead Lewis to a 30-12, 30-21, 30-25 victory over UMSL (9-15, 4-10 Great Lakes Valley Conference). She also added a team-high five blocks.

Fellow senior Megan Poludniak continued her strong play of late, knocking down 10 kills. Since she joined the starting rotation seven matches ago, she has averaged 2.3 kills per game, or more than two kills per game more than her career average entering the season.

Setter Andrea Morrone handled the offense well for the second straight match as she posted 40 assists in the three games. She also guided the offense to a .278 hitting percentage. For the weekend, she handed out 90 assists in eight games to average 11.25 assists per game. In addition, the team hit .264--40 points higher than its season total--in the weekend's matches.

The Flyers (17-9, 9-6 GLVC) have clinched a spot in the GLVC tournament and will make their 18th appearance in the last 19 years. In addition, the team surpassed its overall and conference win totals from the 2003 season with the victory.

Lewis will close out regular-season play when it hosts Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.
