Flyers Season Ends at GLVC Tourney

EVANSVILLE, Ind.-- - The Lewis University women's volleyball team saw its season come to a close following a hard-fought four-game loss to No. 4 seed Indianapolis in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament first round.

The Flyers (18-10) won the opening game of the match, but Indianapolis (23-12) came back to win the next three, as Lewis fell 30-27, 28-30, 21-30, 21-30.

Senior middle hitter Rory Harrison and senior libero Maggie Haen led a Flyer contingent that fought throughout the match. Harrison posted 13 kills and had three blocks, while Haen registered a match-high 23 digs. Haen's performance concluded her season with 463 digs, a mark that set Lewis' single-season digs record. She broke the previous record of 455 digs set in 1995 by Colleen Quinlan.

In addition, junior Rochelle Ruen produced her best match of the season, notching a season-best 20 kills and hitting .295.

Others who aided the Flyer cause were sophomore Theresa Nugent (14 kills, 10 digs), setter Andrea Morrone (49 assists, 16 digs, four blocks) and freshman middle hitter Becca Lisle (season-high nine kills and four blocks).

The Flyers' year marks the 24th winning season in head coach Karen Lockyer's 30 years at Lewis. The team's 18 wins are also the third-highest total for the program in the last 10 years.
