Lewis University's Alejandro Blinder (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Instituto French) scored just 1:18 into Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer game against Bellarmine, and the Flyers made the goal stand up for a 1-0 victory over the Knights.
Blinder's third goal of the season was assisted by Cathal Brady (Dublin, Ireland/St. Peters College Dunboyne) and Gabe Leon (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) and gave Lewis (8-4-2, 7-1), ranked No. 5 in the Central Region of NCAA Division II, its sixth consecutive win. Bellarmine, ranked No. 8 in the region, fell to 7-6-3, 2-4-3.
Lewis goalkeeper Jordan Gustman (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) made three saves and Bellarmine netminder Brad Lipe collected five saves. The Flyers outshot the Knights 20-14.
Lewis, now in sole possession of second place in the GLVC behind Southern Illinois Edwardsville, hosts Northern Kentucky Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
