Flyers Win Seventh In A Row

Oct. 25, 2003

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Gabe Leon (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) scored in the 16th minute and Mike Dahm (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) added an insurance goal in the 78th minute Saturday as the Lewis University men's soccer team blanked Northern Kentucky 2-0.

The victory was the seventh in succession for the Flyers, who improved to 9-4-2 overall and 8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Northern Kentucky fell to 4-9-3, 2-5-3.

Leon's goal, his sixth of the season, was unassisted at 15:28. Dahm tallied his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Cathal Brady (Dublin, Ireland/St. Peters College Dunboyne), at 77:19.

Goalkeeper Jordan Gustman (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) made three saves for the Flyers, whose 33-6 advantage in shots included a 15-3 mismatch in shots on goal. Michael Braun (seven saves, first half) and Nate Madden (six saves, second half) were the NKU goalkeepers.

Lewis concludes the regular season at GLVC leader Southern Illinois Edwardsville Monday. A win by the second-place Flyers would give them a first-round bye and hosting privileges for the semifinals and final for the upcoming GLVC Championship tournament. A tie would make Lewis the tournament's second seed, and a loss would drop the Flyers to third.
