Barreto Comes to Life as Flyers Sweep Findlay

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - ROMEOVILLE, Ill.-The Lewis men's volleyball team got stronger as the match wore on and Findlay faded as the Flyers downed the Oilers 30-23-30-20- 30-16 in Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action.

The Flyers (8-6, 4-2 MIVA) swept Findlay for the seventh time in as many meetings between the schools. Lewis hit .422 for the match and limited the Oilers (10-4, 3-3 MIVA) to a .121 mark, including a negative .040 in game 3.

Fabiano Barreto paced Lewis with a team-high 15 kills. He had just one hitting error on 21 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. He also added three aces and five digs.

Jeff Soler contributed 11 kills, two aces and five digs for Lewis, while Brandon Sisk dished out 38 assists and had a team-high nine digs.

Findlay was within four points, trailing 20-16 in game 1, but Lewis poured on a five-point run that pushed the score to 25-16 and essentially clinched the game.

Game 2 saw Lewis produce its best hitting mark of the night with a .538 percentage in the game. Barreto and Soler had five kills each in the game.

Lewis leapt out early in game 3 and never looked back. Leading 15-6 halfway home, the Flyers cruised to the match-ending victory.

Jeff Overfield led Findlay with 17 kills and hit a team-best .270. Libero Scott Monroe closed with a match-high 10 digs to lead the Oiler defense.

Lewis will travel to local rival Loyola Chicago on Tuesday, Feb. 24 for its next match. Match time is 7 p.m. at Loyola's Alumni Gym.
