Lewis Puts Three In Top 20, Places Sixth At Border States Meet

ROMEOVILLE - The Lewis University men finished sixth among 22 teams Saturday at the Border States Cross Country Invitational.

Three Flyers placed among the top 20 in the 213-runner, 8,000-meter race. Larry Cardenas led the way in 10th (26:03.96), Andy Tremble finished 17th (26:21.60) and Braulio Benitez placed 20th (26:28.23).

Willie Nelson (57th, 27:27.68) and Larry Anzalone (Bensenville, Ill./Fenton) (59th, 27:29.74) also were in the scoring group for Lewis, which tallied 141 points and trailed Southern Indiana (73), Rend Lake C.C. (87), Indianapolis (99), Paradise Valley C.C. (122) and Missouri Southern State (123). Josh Thompson (63rd, 27:36.08) and Chris Foley (72nd, 27:48.80) rounded out the Flyers' top seven.

Also competing for Lewis were Dustin Long (91st, 28:12.91), Darren Orange (107th, 28:38.62), Lamar Quinn (120th, 28:53.77), John Archer (128th, 29:08.47), Brad Fox (140th, 29:29.23), Adrian Myers (155th, 30:04.78), Brad Rackow (158th, 30:13.90), Cris Nica (180th, 31:09.64) and Nick Wyatt (182nd, 31:18.40).

Lewis hosts the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships Oct. 25 at Dellwood Park in Lockport.
