Benitez All-GLVC, Tremble Freshman Of The Year As Flyers Place Fifth In Conference

LOCKPORT - Lewis University finished fifth among eight teams Saturday at the 26th annual Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Cross Country Championship in Dellwood Park.

Braulio Benitez and Andy Tremble were the Flyers' top competitors. Benitez, who covered the 10,000-meter course in 32:58.9, finished ninth and earned All-GLVC honors. Tremble placed 14th in 33:20.0 and collected GLVC Freshman of the Year accolades as the meet's top freshman finisher.

Chris Foley (22nd, 34:03.7), Larry Cardenas (28th, 34:16.8) and Willie Nelson (29th, 34:18.0) completed the Lewis scoring group, with Josh Thompson (30th, 34:21.5) and Larry Anzalone (Bensenville, Ill./Fenton) (36th, 34:33.8) rounding out the Flyers' top seven.

Also competing for Lewis were Dustin Long (41st, 34:55.5), Lamar Quinn (46th, 35:35.2), Darren Orange (53rd, 35:51.4), Brad Rackow (65th, 36:30.3), Nick Wyatt (69th, 36:55.5), John Archer (70th, 37:02.2), Adrian Myers (73rd, 37:07.6), Cris Nica (83rd, 38:32.3), Mike Eck (84th, 38:36.9) and Erik Donovan (88th, 40:00.6).

Southern Indiana (40 points) won the GLVC title, followed by Southern Illinois Edwardsville (69), Wisconsin-Parkside (78), Indianapolis (80), Lewis (102), Bellarmine (144), Saint Joseph's (201) and Northern Kentucky (229).
