Box Score

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Lewis University baseball team fell to 1-2 on the young season after dropping both games of Friday's day-night doubleheader. Freshman right-hander Greg Moss allowed only one earned run in the morning game against Hillsdale, but the Flyers managed just four hits in a 3-1 loss.

In the night game, Barry overcame a 4-for-4 hitting performance by Lewis left fielder Brandon Niewinski and downed the Flyers 6-5.

Moss went the distance in his first collegiate start, striking out six while yielding just seven hits and one walk. Chris Carbonaro had two of Lewis' four hits, including a sixth-inning double that plated the Flyers' only run.

Despite losing the nightcap, Lewis showed signs of being a resourceful offensive team by scoring all its runs with two outs.

Andy Sweet (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere)'s third-inning RBI triple gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead. After Barry scored three runs in the fourth, Lewis pulled even with single tallies in the next two innings. Victor Naut was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth, and Niewinski scored in the sixth when he and Andy Radak pulled off a double steal.

Barry took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth and added the eventual game-winning run in the seventh on a two-out solo home run. Lewis pulled to within a run when Phil Marchinski delivered a two-run single in the eighth but stranded the tying and go-ahead runs at second and third in the ninth.

Senior right-hander Chad Dahlman absorbed the loss. Dahlman pitched 5 2/3 innings and yielded nine hits, five runs (four earned) and four walks while striking out one. Dave Tolchin tossed the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed two hits, one run and one walk while fanning one.
