Gilman Powers Lewis to Victory in GLVC Opener

QUINCY, Ill. - Katie Gilman pounded 23 kills and tallied 23 digs as the Lewis women's volleyball team defeated Quincy in four games September 19.

Lewis (8-4, 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) topped the Lady Hawks 30-28, 30-26, 30-32, 30-26 to win its GLVC opener.

Gilman amassed at least 20 kills for the fourth time this season and finished the match with a .306 hitting percentage and five blocks.

Abby Hodge has taken over the setting duties in recent matches, and the sophomore setter posted 56 assists and helped the offense to a .218 hitting percentage.

Freshman Theresa Nugent and sophomore Rory Harrison registered 12 kills each to balance the Lewis attack. Harrison added an ace and five blocks, while Nugent had 11 digs.

Senior Lisa Paasch had an exceptional night at the service line as she served six aces in the match.

A close match in all aspects, Lewis held the edge over the Lady Hawks (7-5, 0-1 GLVC) in kills (66-64), assists (64-61), aces (11-9), digs (91-90) and blocks (10-7).

The Flyers will play at home this weekend for the first time in a month as they host Bellarmine Friday at 7 p.m. and Northern Kentucky Saturday at 2 p.m.
