ROMEOVILLE - Wisconsin-Parkside scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on for an 8-6 victory over Lewis that gave the Rangers a sweep of Wednesday's Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

Wisconsin-Parkside won game one 3-1.

Lewis (8-13, 2-4 GLVC) raced to a 4-0 lead in the nightcap with a run in the second inning and three in the third.

Darryl Jenkins (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield)' groundout scored Victor Naut with an unearned run in the second. In the third, Mike Smith singled and scored after advancing on Andy Sweet (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere)'s sacrifice bunt and two wild pitches. Chris Carbonaro walked, and Naut's fifth home run of the season made it 4-0 Flyers.

Wisconsin-Parkside (14-7, 8-2 GLVC) pulled even with a four-run fourth, but the Flyers utilized two Ranger errors to regain the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.

Adam Brechtl's two-run homer in the seventh gave UWP a 6-5 lead, and the Rangers added a pair of unearned runs later in the inning to make it 8-5. A two-out RBI single by Brian Davis in the Lewis seventh pulled the Flyers a run closer, but the tying runs were stranded on second and third.

Flyer reliever David Scheibe (1-3) took the loss. Paul Gagliardi (1-0) allowed just three hits and one run, walked nobody and struck out six over the final four innings to earn the victory.

In the opener, Lewis scored its lone run in the second on Matt Flavin (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice)'s bases-loaded single. The Rangers plated two unearned runs in the fifth off Matt Petrusek (3-3) and added an insurance tally in the seventh.

Petrusek went the seven-inning distance and gave six hits and four walks while striking out six. Scott Campbell (2-1) yielded five hits and two walks and fanned seven in five innings to notch the victory. Donny Leicht pitched the sixth and seventh to pick up his third save.

Flavin and Phil Marchinski had two hits apiece for Lewis in the opener, while Sweet and Smith collected a pair of hits apiece in game two.

Lewis travels to Southern Illinois Edwardsville for GLVC doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday. Game time both days is noon.
