ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University softball team knocked out 30 hits and scored 21 runs as it swept a doubleheader from Robert Morris College-Springfield.
The Flyers (21-9) won the games 12-0 (five innings) and 9-1 (six innings), respectively. The losses drop RMCS, whose program is in its first year of existence, to 7-17.
Elaina Ktistou recorded four hits, scored three runs and tallied an RBI to lead the Flyer offense in game 1. Robin Martz and Christina Willis added two hits and two runs scored each. All told, 11 different players had at least one hit and Lewis amassed 16 total hits in the opener.
Lewis scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second, six in the third and one in the fourth for its 12 runs.
Kristen Porzel (4-1) claimed the win with a one-hit shutout. The lone hit she allowed came from Tiffany Bennett, the second batter of the game. Porzel struck out four and walked one in five innings.
Game 2 saw Lewis round up 14 hits. Martz went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored, while Kristy Vanek had a double and five RBI to lead the team in the nightcap. Stacy Davis added three hits and an RBI to finish the doubleheader 4-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
A.J. Lagerhausen (3-0) scattered seven hits and struck out two in the six-inning win.
The Flyers will face a stern test this weekend as they host a doubleheader against SIU Edwardsville, the two-time defending Great Lakes Valley Conference champion, this Saturday, April 3, at noon. Lewis will then host a conference doubleheader with Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday, April 4 at noon.
