The Lewis University baseball team concluded the 2004 season on a down note Sunday, losing to Quincy 5-0 and 7-2 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.
The Flyers finished the season 16-39 overall and 10-29 in GLVC play. Quincy improved to 32-24 overall, 22-16 in the GLVC.
Lewis managed just five hits in the 7-inning opener. Darryl Jenkins had a triple and a single, and Chris Carbonaro had a double and a single.
Starting pitcher Matt Petrusek (5-7) allowed just two earned runs and seven hits and struck out five in six innings. Quincy's Matt Rodeffer (7-2) fanned 10 and did not walk a batter.
In game two, the Flyers scored a run in each of the first two innings. Brian Davis led off the game with a double, moved to third on Jenkins' single and scored on Ahren Baranski (Channahon, Ill./Minooka)'s single.
In the second, Mike Loprieno drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on Phil Marchinski (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville)'s sacrifice bunt. Andy Radak was hit by a pitch and Davis singled to load the bases, and Loprieno scored on Jenkins' fielder's choice.
But Quincy scored twice in the second to tie it, added a run in the third to take the lead for good and scored four insurance runs in the fourth. Meanwhile, Lewis was held to just two hits from the third inning on and finished with six for the game.
Jordan Roth (2-2) settled down after the first two innings and pitched six innings to earn the victory. Chris Otten tossed one-hit ball over the final three innings to pick up his first save. Matt Tanton (6-4) absorbed the loss.
Davis and Matt Newquist each had two hits, and Ryan Johnson allowed just two hits and one walk in four innings of relief.
