PENSACOLA, Fla.--Sophomores Theresa Nugent (Oak Lawn, Ill./Queen of Peace) and Sarah McKinney (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) powered the Lewis University women's volleyball team to an easy three-set victory at the Comfort Inn-Vitational hosted by West Florida.
Lewis (2-0) dominated Adelphi (0-2) in a 30-25, 30-14, 30-20 sweep. The Flyers registered 10 team blocks and limited the Panthers to a negative .023 hitting percentage.
Nugent led the Flyers in kills for the second straight match as she posted a match-high 11 kills. She added 11 digs and three service aces while hitting .233.
McKinney registered 10 kills and just two hitting errors for a .348 hitting night.
Junior transfer Rochelle Ruen (Hope, Idaho/Sandpoint H.S.) saw her first action as a Flyer and split time with freshman setter Andrea Morrone (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg). The pair combined for 24 assists in three games, while Ruen added six kills, four blocks and a .500 hitting percentage.
Defensively, senior libero Maggie Haen (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) posted 24 digs. Freshman middle hitter Rebecca Lisle (Miliani, Hawaii/Iolani) paced the team with a match-high six blocks and sophomore middle Charisse Steckling (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) added three blocks.
The Flyers will conclude play in their opening tournament with a pair of matches on Saturday. Lewis will face Montevallo (0-2) at 8:30 a.m. and West Alabama at 4:30 p.m.
