INDIANAPOLIS--The Lewis University women's volleyball team took to the road seeking its first conference win of the season and did not face an easy task, playing the defending conference champions.
Lewis (7-6, 0-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference) remained winless in league play and lost its fourth straight match with a 3-0 setback to Indianapolis (10-5, 3-0 GLVC). The Greyhounds bested the Flyers 30-27, 30-19, 30-26.
The Flyers were unable to withstand the offensive attack from Indianapolis' Shaun McAllister, as the senior outside hitter tallied 19 kills and had just one hitting error in 35 attempts for a .514 hitting percentage.
Lewis' Theresa Nugent countered McAllister with 12 kills and a .385 hitting percentage, but the Flyers combined to hit .142 as a team, while Indianapolis posted a .274 hitting percentage.
Jessica Lockhart added nine kills and 13 digs, while setter Andrea Morrone passed out 27 assists and had 10 digs. Libero Maggie Haen recorded a match-high 18 digs.
Lewis will look to earn its first GLVC victory against Saint Joseph's Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. Lewis head coach Karen Lockyer will also be seeking her 699th career victory as she closes in on becoming just the third coach in NCAA Division II history to win 700 matches.
