ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Winona State handed Lewis its first loss of the season in the Flyer women's volleyball team's home opener.
Lewis (4-1) won the first game 30-25, but Winona State (2-4) rallied to win the next three games and take the match 25-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-26.
Theresa Nugent (Oak Lawn, Ill./Queen of Peace) paced the Flyer offense with 19 kills and a .255 hitting percentage. Freshman Jessica Lockhart (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) recorded 12 kills and sophomore Charisse Steckling (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) added seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Val Olis (Valparaiso, Ind./Boone Grove) chipped in with six kills in the loss.
Defensively, Maggie Haen (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) had 17 digs, while Rochelle Ruen (Hope, Idaho/Sandpoint H.S.) posted 12 digs. Rory Harrison (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) had a team-high four blocks.
The Warriors were led by Kiersten Arendt's 18 kills, six blocks and .484 hitting percentage. Megan Pulvermacher had 15 kills, 13 digs and seven blocks, while Molly Horihan posted nine kills and a match-high eight blocks.
Lewis will conclude play in its own Flyer Festival with a 2 p.m. match against Saginaw Valley State. SVSU, who beat Saint Xavier 3-0 in Friday's early match, will play Winona State at 10 a.m. Sept. 4. Saint Xavier will then face WSU at noon.
