Sophomore Jared Dayton pounded a career-high 22 kills as the Lewis University men's volleyball team outlasted IPFW in five games.
The Flyers (3-3, 2-0 Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) won games 1, 3 and 5 to remain perfect in conference play. Lewis toppled the Mastodons (1-3, 0-1 MIVA) 30-20, 26-30, 30-21, 26-30, 15-9.
Dayton led three Lewis players in double digit kills and had a career-high eight digs while hitting a team-best .357.
Jeff Soler tallied a double double with 18 kills and 10 digs, while Matt Mueller had 11 kills, five blocks and four digs.
J.J. Castellano headed Lewis' defense with a career-high 12 digs. In addition, Greg Pochopien posted seven blocks. Setter Brandon Sisk handed out 58 assists.
Lewis outhit IPFW .221-.182 and outdug them 44-34. IPFW earned a slight edge in blocking with 14.5 team blocks compared to Lewis 12.5.
IPFW was led by Matt Zybszewski's 18 kills. However, the 2004 MIVA Player of the Year was limited to just a .102 hitting percentage.
Lewis returns to action against Mercyhurst on Saturday, January 29.
