HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.--The Lewis University women's volleyball team lost its first Great Lakes Valley Conference match of the season in a hard-fought five-set match against Northern Kentucky.
The Flyers (11-5, 4-1 GLVC) won two of the first three games, but NKU (16-4, 5-2 GLVC) came back to win the final two games and take the match 30-32, 30-25, 24-30, 30-28, 15-11.
Lewis' offense played steady and limited mistakes, while its defense was led by 17 team blocks. Theresa Nugent paced the team with 13 kills and a career-high nine blocks. Middle blockers Jenna Sayers (six blocks) and Becca Lisle (seven blocks) keyed Lewis' blocking.
Offensively, Sarah McKinney led the team with 15 kills and a .302 hitting percentage (15k-2e-43att). Lisle added 11 kills and Aubrey Dondlinger posted 14 kills.
Abby Hodge and Andrea Morrone chipped in with 14 digs each.
Lewis hit .177, while NKU posted a .215 clip. NKU registered an astounding 110 digs and held an edge in kills 86-62.
Despite the loss, Lewis remains tied with Rockhurst (6-1 GLVC) in the loss column atop the conference; Rockhurst fell in a five-set match with SIU Edwardsville this afternoon.
Lewis will next play at home against SIUE Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
