Final Stats

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--If not for a string of blocks in game 5, the Lewis University women's volleyball team would have walked out of Neil Carey Arena with a conference victory over Indianapolis.

Leading 11-10, Lewis' hitters found a stingy defensive wall on four consecutive play, as Indianapolis (18-11, 7-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference) stormed to a 14-11 lead. Ashley Fallos ended the match with a service ace and UIndy escaped with a five-set victory.

Indianapolis' comeback erased a two-games-to-one Lewis lead with a 30-28, 17-30, 24-30, 30-19, 15-11 victory.

The Flyers (13-10, 6-5 GLVC) received outstanding performances from multiple players in the hard-fought match. Junior Theresa Nugent paced the team with a match-high 23 kills and a .413 hitting percentage. She also added three blocks.

Nugent was one of five Lewis players with at least 10 kills. Middle hitters Sylvia Ciezak and Becca Lisle each had 11 kills, while Sarah McKinney and Val Olis each posted 10 kills.

Defensively, Ciezak tallied a team-high eight blocks and Lisle chipped in with five blocks. Libero Abby Hodge had a team-high 22 digs and McKinney recorded 16 digs.

Setter Andrea Morrone handed out 54 assists and registered a career-high eight service aces. Accurate records do not encompass the history of Lewis' women's volleyball program, but it is believed that Morrone's eight aces is a school record.

Indianapolis was led by Whitney Boling's 21 kills, 13 digs, five blocks and .419 hitting percentage. Lynne Ross added 11 kills and Alyssa Carlotta had 10 kills. In addition, middle blocker Emeral Holladay established this season's highest block total in league play with 15 (two solos, 13 assists).

Lewis returns to action Saturday, Oct. 22 with a 2 p.m. match against Saint Joseph's.
