KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
Lewis fought hard to keep its season alive Thursday, but sensational serving was a key factor for third-seeded Northern Kentucky in NKU's 30-24, 30-28, 28-30, 30-26 victory over the sixth-seeded Flyers in a Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Championship quarterfinal match.
Theresa Nugent led all players with 20 kills (.326 attack percentage) and also collected 14 digs and five blocks for Lewis, which concluded its season with a 17-13 record. Aubrey Dondlinger tallied 13 kills.
Andrea Morrone (16 digs) and Rebecca Lisle (eight blocks) led the Lewis defensive effort. Stacey Hameister chipped in 13 digs and Morrone registered 45 assists.
The Flyers earned advantages in attack percentage (.192-.164) and blocks (11-5), but NKU (26-6) served a whopping 20 aces. The Norse lead the GLVC and rank 17th in NCAA Division II in that category.
Lewis has won 16 or more matches in six consecutive seasons.
