Lewis steadily pulled away from Saint Joseph's in the second half and posted an 81-65 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory Thursday night at Neil Carey Arena.
Playing their GLVC opener, the Flyers (3-2) led 43-34 at halftime after leading by as many as 16 points in the opening stanza. An early second-half spurt gave Lewis a 51-36 lead, but Saint Joseph's (4-2, 0-2) scored the next six points to slice the Lewis advantage to 51-42 with 12:59 left.
That was as close as the visitors would get, however, as the Flyers assembled a 13-5 run to establish a 64-47 cushion at the 9:19 mark. Lewis led by as many as 23 points before settling for the final margin.
Darcee Schmidt led all players with 16 points, including 12 in the second half, to help Lewis post its highest scoring output of the season. Mary Moskal scored 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting as the Flyers hit 58 percent from the floor while holding the Pumas to 32 percent.
Shante Glenn scored 11 points and Cassie Stark added 10. Brittney Diener registered game highs of eight assists and four steals, and Kelly Dianis was the Flyers' top rebounder with six boards.
Jennifer Graham and Julia LaBlanc paced Saint Joseph's, which was 19-of-23 at the foul line, with 10 points apiece. Michelle Bova grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Lewis hosts Indianapolis Saturday at 1 p.m.
