Missouri-St. Louis (10-3, 2-0) got complete games from pitchers Steven McCoy and Mike Lantzy. McCoy allowed two unearned runs, five hits and five walks while striking out three in the opener. Lewis (2-12, 0-2) struck for three runs in the first inning of game two. Billy Duffy and Brandon Niewinski singled, and Duffy scored when Lantzy threw the ball away on Mike Loprieno (Bloomingdale, Ill./Driscoll)'s sacrifice bunt. Naut singled in Niewinski one out later, and after Smith's bunt single loaded the bases, Andy Radak (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville)'s sacrifice fly plated Loprieno.
UMSL tied it in the fifth and took the lead with a run in the sixth off Flyer starter Joe Walsh (0-3). The Rivermen scored four insurance runs, three of them unearned, in the seventh.
Naut and Smith each had three hits in game two, with one of Naut's safeties a double. Duffy and Niewinski had two hits apiece. Walsh allowed five runs, but just three earned, and only four hits and two walks in his 6 1/3 innings of work.
UMSL established an 8-0 lead after three innings of game one. The Flyers avoided a shutout in the seventh when Phil Marchinski singled in two runs.
Jon Guzzo (0-3) absorbed the loss. Tim Harmatys pitched well in relief, yielding just one hit and one walk while striking out two in 3 1/3 innings.
