RENSSELAER, Ind.--The Lewis University softball team peeked above .500 with a pair of region victories over Saint Joseph's.
The Flyers swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Pumas 3-0 and 10-1.
Freshman Kasey DeLair (1-1) earned her second career start and pitched her first complete-game shutout in game 1. She allowed just two hits and struck out three in seven innings of work. She has not allowed an earned run in her last 13 1/3 innings.
The Flyers first cracked the scoreboard in the third inning of the opener. Sophomore Beth Shelus doubled home Robin Martz to stake a 1-0 lead.
Lewis added a single run in sixth and seventh innings as well. In the sixth, Martz tripled and scored two batters later on a suicide squeeze by Kristy Vanek. In the seventh, Mallory Paine scored on the back end of a double steal for the Flyers' final insurance run.
The Flyers jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first three innings of game 2 and didn't look back.
Freshman Carla Musillo hit her second home run of the season, a two-run shot, through a fierce wind to give Lewis a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
In the third, Paine delivered the big blow with an RBI single that made the score 4-0. The Flyers plated four unearned runs in the inning and scored one run on an error and another on a wild pitch.
The team was able to invoke the run-rule in the fifth after scoring four runs, three unearned, in the top half of the inning.
Shannon Roney (3-4) picked up the complete-game victory. She scattered six hits and struck out five, while allowing a single earned run.
