Final Stats
ROMEOVILE, Ill.-The Lewis University men's volleyball team swept a spirited Carthage College team 30-28, 30-26, 30-23 Tuesday night.
The Flyers (14-12), ranked No. 14 in the AVCA NCAA Division I-II Coaches Poll, held the Redmen (13-8) to a .118 hitting percentage for the match. 22 Lewis service errors helped keep the scores closer than the game play would indicate.
Senior Jeff Soler paced the Flyers with a match-high 14 kills. He hit .480 and had seven digs and three blocks.
Jared Dayton added eight kills, while middle hitters Enrique Escalante and Greg Pochopien had seven kills apiece. Escalante chipped in with five digs and five blocks.
Lewis hit .297 and had 10 team blocks and 25 digs in the three games.
Carthage was led by Pat Koster's nine kills and six digs. Shane Olson had seven kills and three digs, while Rob Koehler and Allan Russo posted six kills each.
The Redmen entered the match ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division III Coaches Poll.
The Redmen led 23-22 in game 1 before the Flyers ripped off four straight points to regain control of the game.
Game 2 was tied at 14-all when another Lewis run gave the Flyers the upper hand with a 21-16 lead.
Both teams mixed up their lineups in game 3 and all but one Lewis player saw action in the set.
