ROMEOVILLE -
The Lewis University baseball team posted its highest run total in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game this season in game two of Sunday's doubleheader against Bellarmine, but a late rally gave the visiting Knights a 10-6 win and a sweep of the twinbill.
Bellarmine won the opener 11-1.
Bellarmine (10-17, 5-7 GLVC) led 5-3 in the nightcap before Lewis (4-22, 2-12 GLVC) took the lead with three runs in the seventh. Brandon Niewinski, Dave Tolchin and Mike Sisti each had an RBI in the inning, with Sisti's suicide squeeze bunt giving the Flyers a 6-5 edge. However, Bellarmine pulled even with an unearned run in the eighth and struck for four runs in the ninth.
The Flyers tallied single runs, all scoring with two outs, in the third on Niewinski's single, in the fifth on Mike Smith (Lemont, Ill./Lemont)'s double and in the sixth on Mike Loprieno (Bloomingdale, Ill./Driscoll)'s double.
Smith, Niewinski and John Benisek each had two hits for Lewis in game two.
The Flyers managed just three hits, including two by Smith, in the opener. Lewis plated its only run in the seventh on Andy Radak (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville)'s infield single.
Lewis continues GLVC play Wednesday, hosting Wisconsin-Parkside in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
