Box Score

ROMEOVILLE - Thursday's Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer game matching archrivals Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside was befitting of a series that has produced classic battles time and again.

Lewis did not allow a shot on goal in the flow of play during the second half, and the Flyers earned a 6-4 edge in shots on net for the game. But Wisconsin-Parkside was awarded a penalty kick early in the second half, and Ben Tommerup knocked it in for a 1-0 Ranger victory.

Tommerup's goal, his third of the season, was scored at 59:33.

Lewis, rated No. 5 in this week's NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll, is now 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC. Wisconsin-Parkside, ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region, improved to 6-1, 2-1.

Flyer goalkeeper Brian Byrne stopped three UWP shots in the first half. Parkside's Victor Perez made five saves, and one Lewis shot was stopped by a Ranger defender.

The Flyers step out of conference on Sunday, traveling to Truman State for a game that starts at noon.
