WILDER, Ky. -
The Lewis University men's soccer team waged a close battle against a highly ranked region opponent on the road Friday night, but the Flyers came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Northern Kentucky.
Lewis (4-4, 2-2 GLVC) earned slight advantages in total shots (8-7), shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (3-1) against NKU (6-2, 4-1), the No. 4-ranked team in this week's NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll. The Flyers are ranked 10th in the region.
NKU tallied the only goal of the game late in the first half. Chris Thompson, with an assist from Tony Capurro, scored his third goal of the season at the 39:04 mark, and Norse goalkeeper Jeremy Curington made it stand up.
The Flyers will try to get back on the winning track Sunday in their GLVC clash with Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky.
