Nick Perakes recorded a match-high 13 digs as the Flyers (2-1, 0-1 MIVA) fell 30-23, 30-27, 30-23 to Quincy University (3-0, 1-0 MIVA) in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action Friday night at Pepsi Arena.
Rob Colombo added 10 digs, while Mykolai Zerebeckyj and Drew Pickering each tallied 11 kills for the Flyers. Pickering also had five digs to total a team-high 12 points for the match.
The Flyers and Hawks were tied 11-11 in the third game until Branden Been registered a kill to give the Hawks the lead for good. The Hawks followed Been's kill with a block and service ace on the next two plays to give the take a 14-11 advantage.
Quincy took control from there, rallying for their biggest lead of the game (28-20) before closing out the seven-point win.
The second game was the closest of the match, with Quincy taking advantage of a service error and two attack errors by the Flyers to bust a 26-26 tie and grab the win.
The first game was tied 8-8 before Quincy took control, leading by as many as eight en route to the 30-23 win.
Jon Moreno (13) and Ryan Ehnert (11) led the Hawks in kills, while Patrick Reidy and Mike Contee each had 10 digs.
The Flyers return to action next Friday when they play their home opener against New Jersey Institute of Technology at 7 pm.
