Flyers Trounce USI, Head To Semifinals

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Sarah McKinney was one of five Lewis players to reach double figures in kills, as she hit .410 and matched her season high with 20 to lead the Flyers past Southern Indiana, 30-20, 28-30, 30-17, 30-23, Thursday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinal match.

Lewis improved to 23-5 for the season and moves on to play Rockhurst on Friday at 5 p.m. It's the Flyers first trip to the GLVC semifinals since 2002.

McKinney's performance included 11 digs and one solo and one assisted block. Joining McKinney with a kill/dig double-double was Freshman of the Year Stephanie Sagat, who had 16 kills and 12 digs, and Theresa Nugent with 11 kills and 22 digs. Charisse Steckling (13 kills) and Sara deBuhr (10 kills) also contributed to the Flyers' dominating attack.

Lauren Hatter recorded 19 digs, setting a Lewis record for digs in a season with 487. Maggie Haen's mark of 474 stood since the 2004 season. Andrea Morrone collected 56 assists and had a season-high 26 digs.

The Flyers dominated from the start, hitting .289 while limiting the Screaming Eagles to a .023 effort in the first game. Lewis went on the hit .247 for the match compared to .087 by Southern Indiana.

Chelse Doubler had 15 kills and was the only Southern Indiana player to reach double figures in kills.
