Drew Pickering led Lewis with 12 kills, but the Flyers fell to No. 10 Ball State University 30-25, 30-24 and 30-14, in Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball action Friday night at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers dropped to 3-4 (1-3 MIVA), while the Cardinals improved to 7-0 (1-0 MIVA) for the season.
Pickering, who hit .346 for the match, recorded his 100th kill of the season in the second game. David Kelnhofer had nine kills, and Mykolai Zerebeckyj added eight for Lewis. Jordan Vidovic and Nick Perakes led the Flyers with five digs apiece.
The Flyers best effort came in the first game when they hit .258, led by as many as five points and held a 17-16 edge before Ball State took control.
The Cardinals never trailed in the second game, turning an 11-10 lead into 14-10 advantage and maintaining at least that much of a cushion the rest of the way.
The third game was tied 8-8, but the Cardinals rallied for the next four points and out-scored Lewis 22-6 en route to the match win.
Nick Myers led the Cardinals with a match-high 15 kills, hitting an impressive .636 with five blocks. Evan Berg, Patrick Durbin and Zoran Grabovac each tallied seven kills, while Ian Peckler posted a match-high six digs.
The Cardinals out-hit the Flyers .420 to .108 and held a dominating 17-2 advantage in blocks.
The Flyers attempt to snap their two-match losing streak Saturday night when they host No. 15 George Mason at 7 pm.
