Flyers Too Much For Clarke, 3-0

DUBUQUE, IOWA - Drew Pickering tallied a Flyers' season high of 22 kills as Lewis swept the Clarke Crusaders 30-15, 30-20 and 31-29 Thursday evening at the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center.

With the win, the Flyers snapped a three-match losing skid and improved to 4-5 (1-3 MIVA) for the season.

The Flyers'15-point win in the first game of the match was their biggest margin of victory in a single game this season.

Pickering hit .375 for the match and also recorded four digs and three blocks. David Kelnhofer was the other Flyer to reach double digits in kills with 13 on 26 attempts, and he notched seven digs with two blocks. Nick Perakes posted a match-high 16 digs, while Jordan Vidovic was credited with 47 assists.

After a couple of Flyers' hitting errors helped the Crusaders tie the final set 29 all, Alex Vigansky nailed a kill for the Flyers' 30th point. A setting error on the part of the Crusaders gave the Flyers their 31st and final point, along with the match.

The Flyers rallied for an 18-6 run in the second game, turning a 10-8 deficit to a 26-16 advantage thanks in part to seven kills from Pickering during the spurt. The first game was tied 11-11, before the Flyers took advantage of eight Clarke errors en route to the 15-point win.

Erik Vogt led Clarke with 10 kills and seven blocks (three solo), and he contributed seven digs. Teammate Pat McCarthy had a team-high eight digs.

The Flyers hit .306 with seven blocks and five aces, while the Crusaders hit .167 with 13 blocks and one ace.

The Flyers don't play again until Friday, Feb. 17, when they host Quincy at 7 pm.
