Victor Naut (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick)'s seventh-inning grand slam broke a 4-4 tie, and Lewis went on to post an 8-7 victory over Saint Joseph's in game two of Tuesday's Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball doubleheader.
In the seven-inning opener, Kevin Diete homered twice and drove in six runs, and Mark Lowry fired a three-hitter to lead Saint Joseph's to a 15-0 win.
Naut's home run, his team-leading fourth of the season and his third hit of the game, came with two outs and followed a double by Jim Gabriel, a pinch-hit bunt single by Ryan Reynolds and a walk to Darryl Jenkins. The blast increased the Flyer third baseman's team-leading RBI total to 21.
Lewis (4-32, 3-25 GLVC) struck for three first-inning runs. Ryan Duran doubled with one out, and Jenkins followed with his first home run of the season. Naut singled, advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher and scored on Tim Bingham (Plainfield, Ill./Westland, Mi./John Glenn)'s two-out single.
The Flyers made it 4-0 in the fifth. Billy Duffy doubled with one out, went to third on Duran's single and scored on Jenkins' sacrifice fly.
Saint Joseph's (21-15, 18-14 GLVC) pulled even with four runs in its half of the fifth. The Pumas plated a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth, but Flyer left-hander Jon Guzzo (2-5) stranded the tying and winning runs at first and second.
Guzzo, who pitched the final 4 1/3 innings in relief of starter Matt Rolle, struck out six and issued just one walk. Rolle fanned six in his 4 2/3 innings of work.
Duffy, Jenkins and Kevin Tyrrell managed the Flyers' only hits in game one.
The Flyers travel to Missouri-Rolla for a pair of GLVC doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday. Game time both days is noon.
