The Lewis Flyers pounded 20 hits for 22 runs in a pair of five-inning, run-rule wins (12-1, 10-1) over Bethel College (Ind.) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Lewis Softball Field.
Shannon Roney (5-1) earned the complete-game victory in the opener. She allowed just one run, one walk and one hit while striking out five batters.
Courtney Lyons (8-5) picked up the win in game two, going the complete five innings and allowing only one run on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Roney was one of four Flyers to register three hits for the day. She went 3-for-4 with a double, homer and five RBI. Robin Martz had a 3-for-6 day with three runs, three stolen bases and an RBI. Mallory Paine also was 3-for-6, tallying a double, three runs and three RBI.
Kelly Dianis extended her team-leading hit streak to 11 games with a home run in the first game and a pair of hits in game two. She scored four runs and had two RBI.
After scoring a run in the first inning of game one, the Flyers plated six more in the second.
Lisa Gartland led off the second inning with a double and later scored on a fielding error. Martz singled home Beth Shelus a few at-bats later, and Paine (single) and Roney (double) each tallied two-RBI hits before the inning ended.
The Flyers added another tally in the third inning and four more in the fourth. Dianis started the scoring in the fourth with a solo home run, and Lyons added a two-RBI single. Michelle Yudys also contributed with a pinch-hit in the inning.
It was more of the same in game two as Lewis scored three times in the first inning. Dianis singled in one of those runs, and Roney brought Dianis home when she belted a two-run shot over the fence in left field.
Roney collected her third RBI of the game in the third inning when she hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Paine who doubled to lead off the frame.
The Flyers put the game out of reach with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by Ashley LeGrand (Grafton, Wis./Hononegah)'s line-drive, two-run home run to left center. Paine added an RBI single, and Amy Yusko collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
The Flyers return to conference play Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader against visiting Wisconsin-Parkside. First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
