CHICAGO -
Colleen Kilduff hit her third home run this week against the Lewis Flyers (36-11) to help Saint Xavier to a 7-5 win in the opener of a scheduled doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Rain washed out game two.
After receiving an intentional pass in the first inning, Kilduff came up in the second with the bases loaded and connected for a grand slam over the fence in left field to put Saint Xavier up 4-0.
The Flyers answered in the third as Kelly Dianis hit an RBI single to score Robin Martz with the Flyers' first run. Courtney Lyons ripped her first home run of the season in the fourth inning to make it 4-2, but Saint Xavier added to its lead in the bottom of the inning.
With a runner on second and one out, the Flyers handed Kilduff her second intentional walk of the game. That brought up Jory Bodi, who worked the count full before unleashing a three-run bomb to left field.
The Flyers managed one more run in the fifth thanks to a run-scoring groundout by Lisa Gartland, and they added two more in the sixth. Mallory Paine hit a sacrifice fly to score Lyons, and Dianis singled home Martz with the other run.
Martz finished the day a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Dianis was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Lyons went 3-for-4 with a double and a homer. Julie Wingerter (13-5) suffered the loss in the circle.
The Flyers conclude regular-season play on Sunday with a doubleheader at St. Francis at 11:00 a.m.
