Ryan Duran had four hits, including a three-hit effort in game two, in the Lewis University baseball team's Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader loss to Missouri-St. Louis Sunday at Brennan Field.
The visiting Rivermen took the scheduled seven-inning opener 7-5 in 11 innings, then claimed another extra-inning victory, 5-4 in eight innings, in the nightcap that was shortened from nine to seven innings due to game one going extra frames.
Brandon Niewinski had two hits, including a two-run double, and Duran had a two-run double in game one for the Flyers (10-40, 9-33 GLVC). Darryl Jenkins and Victor Naut collected two hits apiece, and Ryan Reynolds drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Josh Morgan (5-2) pitched five perfect relief innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win for UMSL (19-23, 18-21 GLVC). Lewis reliever Joe Walsh (2-10) suffered the loss.
Duran was 3-for-4 in game two. Jenkins added two more hits and had two RBI, Billy Duffy had two hits, Naut produced an RBI double and Reynolds registered a double.
Matt Rolle (1-4) took the loss despite allowing just four hits. Rolle went the distance and gave just three earned runs while fanning nine.
Mark Sanders (1-6) tossed seven innings and notched the win. Morgan survived a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and recorded his second save.
The Flyers travel to Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday for a GLVC doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
