Defense Propels Flyers To Fifth-Straight Win

QUINCY, Ill. - Lauren Hatter led the Flyers' best defensive effort of the season by registering a career-high 32 digs as Lewis dropped Quincy 3-1 (30-22, 39-37, 30-32, 30-25), Friday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match.

The Flyers improved to 7-3, winners of five straight matches.

Hatter keyed the strong defensive outing which saw the Flyers record 96 digs. Including Hatter, four players reached double digits in digs. Stephanie Sagat totaled 25 digs, Theresa Nugent had 16 and Andrea Morrone added 13.

Sagat and Nugent also ignited the Flyers' offensive attack, as each player amassed 17 kills. Charisse Steckling (12), Christina Avilina (Arlington Heights, Ill./Glenbrook North) (11) and Sara deBuhr (10) also reached double figures in kills.

Quincy's Jennifer Dameworth led all players with 21 kills, hitting a smooth .321 for the match.

The four-game match lasted two hours and 10 minutes, as two games went past 30 points. Steckling ended game two in the Flyers' favor with a kill and an ace for points 38 and 39.

The Flyers look to make it six in a row when they play at Missouri-St. Louis Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
