Friend Reaches 100 As Flyers Stay Unbeaten

QUINCY, Ill. - Lewis head coach Dan Friend secured his 100th career win as a men's coach with a 30-28, 30-22, 30-19 win over Quincy Sunday afternoon in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.

The Flyers have opened the season 7-0 (2-0) for only the second time in program history. The 1996 team was 10-0 before losing its first match.

Drew Pickering and Jared Dayton paced the Lewis attack in Sunday's win at Quincy. Pickering hit a match-best .579, collecting 12 kills on 19 attempts with just one error. He also registered four digs, two aces and two assisted blocks.

Dayton also totaled 12 kills (12-6-25), and he recorded six digs and one assisted block.

Craig Boller added eight kills (8-3-13) and had one ace, one digs and one assisted block. David Kelnhofer contributed seven kills (7-1-15), hitting .400 and coming up with three digs and one assisted block.

Nick Perakes posted a match-high 12 digs, Alex Vigansky had five block assists and Jordan Vidovic and David Taylor came up with 18 and 17 assists, respectively.

The Flyers hit .376 (44-12-85), compared to .250 (43-20-92) by Quincy. Lewis dominated at the net, out-blocking the Hawks 7-1.

Quincy fell to 0-3 (0-1) on the season. The Hawks visit Lewis on Feb. 16.

Lewis plays next at Ball State on Feb. 2.
