The Flyers earned their first victory of the season with a 58-47 decision over Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon. The game was part of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
With the Flyers trailing 18-17 in the first half junior Jenna Mooberry nailed a 3-pointer to give the Flyers a two-point lead. Mooberry recorded a steal on the next possession and found junior Kelly Dianis for a layup to give the Flyers a four-point lead. Lewis scored the final five points of the first half to take a 30-22 lead into halftime. Junior Lauren Martens scored 11 points in first half.
The Flyers extended their lead to a game-high 15 points on a layup by sophomore Amy Smith in the second. The Lewis defense prevented Michigan Tech from getting any closer than nine points.
Lewis limited Michigan Tech to just 26.2 percent shooting from the floor for the game. The Huskies went 0-of-17 from beyond the arc.
Mooberry and Martens both finished with 15 points. Mooberry grabbed five rebounds and two assists. Martens had six rebounds.
Sophomore Lauresha Hawkins recorded team highs in rebounds (7) and assists (4).
For Michigan Tech, Catherine Rottier scored a team-high 14 points and nine rebounds.
Danae Danen finished with 10 points. Katie Wysocky grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Flyers improved to 1-1 and the Huskies fell to 1-1.
Lewis is next in action on Nov. 24 at Grand Valley State.
