Senior Stephan Bolt registered his fourth consecutive double-double by scoring a team-high 10 points and pulling down a game-best 10 rebounds, but No. 11 Drury defeated Lewis 67-54, Thursday evening in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams.
The Flyers (3-1, 0-1) had their season-opening three-game win streak snapped, while Drury (4-0, 1-0) remained perfect on the campaign.
Jumping out to a 5-0 lead, the host Panthers never trailed in the contest. Lewis battled back in the opening minutes, cutting to Drury lead to 7-6, but the Panthers responded with a 13-4 run to thwart the Lewis rally. A pair of Drury free throws at 13:48 pushed the lead to 10 points, and the Panthers maintained a comfortable advantage the rest of the way.
Senior Collins Harris led the Panthers with 16 points, helping his team a a 44-percent shooting effort.
Senior Keelan Donald added nine points for Lewis. Senior Dustin Warfield and junior Jason Genova each scored eight. Lewis shot 34 percent for the game, but was just 1-of-14 from beyond the arc. By comparison, the Panthers made 7-of-17 from 3-point distance.
The Flyers will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when they play at Rockhurst at 3 p.m.
