Lewis Tops Lady Saints

JOLIET, Ill. - The Flyers rallied from a late nine-point deficit to defeat the St. Francis Lady Saints 69-60 in a non-conference road game on Saturday evening.

With nine minutes remaining Lewis trailed 53-44, but the Flyers would score 25 of the final 32 points in the game to pull out the victory. The Flyers tied the game up at 55 on a 3-pointer by junior Kelly Dianis with 4:40 remaining. They took their first lead of the second half at 60-58 on a Dianis 3-pointer at 3:28 after she recorded a steal just seconds earlier. Six points by junior Jenna Mooberry down the stretch helped ice the game for the Flyers.

Dianis finished with four steals and a team-high 15 points. Sophomore Lauresha Hawkins added 11 points. Off the bench, freshman Jenny Turpel added 12 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Senior Jennifer Green tallied nine points and four steals.

St. Francis' Jacqie Storm notched a game-high 21 points.

Strong Lewis defense forced 24 Lady Saint turnovers, which the Flyers turned into 29 points. The Flyers shot 40.4 percent from the floor while holding St. Francis to just 32.3 percent shooting.

The Flyers improved to 5-2 while St. Francis fell to 7-5. Lewis hosts their home opener against Saginaw Valley State on Dec. 30 at 1 p.m.
