Schmidt's 22 Propels Lewis Past Indy

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Darcee Schmidt led all scorers with 22 points and moved into second place all-time on the Lewis career scoring list, as the Flyers turned away Indianapolis 64-54, Saturday afternoon at Neil Carey Arena.

Schmidt went 9-of-16 from the floor with two 3-pointers, and she had five rebounds and four steals. Mary Moskal added 15 points for Lewis, going 5-of-7 from the foul line, and she had six boards and six assists. Erin Cox and Kelly Dianis each tallied seven points, and Kaci Baird scored five. Cox led Lewis with seven rebounds.

The Flyers grabbed a 10-point lead in the first half, but saw it evaporate as Indianapolis rallied back to take one-point advantage at the half.

Lewis came out firing to open the second half, exploding for a 17-2 run. Schmidt and Cox combined for 12 points during the spurt, with Schmidt's jumper at 15:07 putting the Flyers up by 14 for Lewis' largest lead of the afternoon.

Indianapolis managed to cut the lead to seven with 2:53 to play, but could not get any closer.

Amanda Norris paced the Greyhounds with 19 points. Teammate Karla Mast pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds.

Lewis shot 46.9 percent from the field, compared to 25.4 percent by the Greyhounds.

The Flyers improved to 22-3 (15-2), becoming just the third Flyer team in history to win 22 games in a season. Lewis' next victory matches a school record for wins in a season, set by the 1997-98 team (23-5).

The Flyers play their last regular season home game on Tuesday against Wisconsin-Parkside.
