Flyers Come Up Short At IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Jared Dayton registered a team-high 13 kills and Craig Boller hit a team-best .385 for Lewis in a 21-30, 22-30, 30-26, 21-30 loss to No. 5 IPFW Saturday night in conference play.

The Flyers fell to 7-2 (2-2), while IPFW, a 2006 national tournament semifinalist, stayed perfect on the season (8-0, 3-0).

Dayton led the Flyers in kills for an eighth time this season, and he recorded three aces, three digs and two assisted blocks. Boller totaled seven kills, three assisted blocks, two digs and one ace.

David Kelnhofer added nine kills, two assisted blocks, two digs and one ace, and Drew Pickering had seven kills, three digs and one ace. Nick Perakes led Lewis with seven digs. Alex Vigansky set a career high with three solo blocks. He also had two assisted blocks.

IPFW had three players register 10 or more kills. C.J. Macias led all players with 18 kills, hitting .303 for the match. Vitor Oliveira hit .750 with 10 kills on 12 attempts, and Josh Stewart added 11 kills with a .318 hitting effort.

Brock Ullrich collected seven service aces. IPFW had 15 aces for the match, compared to seven by Lewis. The Mastodons hit .284, while limiting Lewis to a .122 showing.

Lewis hosts Loyola Chicago on Tuesday.
