Flyers Sweep NJIT

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Drew Pickering matched his season high with 16 kills, hitting .500 for the night, as Lewis snapped a two-match losing streak with a 30-25, 30-28, 30-28 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology Friday night at Neil Carey Arena.

The Flyers improved to 11-5, while NJIT fell to 9-3.

Pickering's 16 kills came on 26 attempts with only three errors. Pickering also had a team-best five assisted blocks and served three aces.

Jared Dayton added 11 kills, hitting .316, and he had six digs. Nathan Klaas contributed five kills and Alex Viganksy, David Kelnhofer and Billy Sahagian all had four kills for Lewis. Viganksy also came up with six blocks (1BS-5BA). Nick Perakes led all players with eight digs.

Leonardo Paludo (18 kills) and Amobi Armstrong (17 kills) paced the Highlanders.

Lewis out-hit the Highlanders .243 (47-22-103) to .219 (47-24-105) and held a 13-8 advantage in blocks.

Despite the close scores in each set, Lewis trailed only once the entire match when NJIT took a 1-0 lead in game three.

Lewis plays at Cal-State Northridge on March 6.
